Sunday night (Nov. 5) at 8PM, BET will air BLACK GIRLS ROCK! I received the Young, Gifted & Black award for my philanthropic work with the White House, the NAACP and the United Negro College Fund. What an honor it was to be among some of the greatest: Shirley Cesar, Mary J. Blige, Taraji P. Henson, Angela Davis and my idol, Jill Scott.
I wish every black girl could have been in the audience, but thankfully the show airs on Sunday for all to see. It made me so proud to be able to speak to all the little girls out there, telling them that they are beautiful no matter what anyone else says. I was lucky to have a mother and father who told me that every day. It is my sincerest wish that everyone watching the show will realize how phenomenal they really are. So grab all of your family and friends, watch, laugh and cry together on November 5th at 8PM for BLACK GIRLS ROCK!
